The Office of Greenways & Trails (OGT) is working to establish a statewide system of greenways and trails for recreation, conservation, and alternative transportation.  Our efforts are guided by a legislatively adopted plan titled "Connecting Florida's Communities." View a summary of the plan (PDF 1.5 mb) or request a hardcopy by calling 850-245-2052.

FUNDING
OGT provides grants for the development of both motorized and non-motorized recreational trail projects through the Recreational Trails Program.  We also administer the $4.5 million Florida Greenways and Trails Land Acquisition Program under the Florida Forever Act.

COORDINATION & DESIGNATION
OGT's Regional Greenways and Trails Coordinators (PDF 261 kb) work directly with local governments, developers, private landowners and state and federal agencies to facilitate the establishment of the statewide system of greenways and trails.  The Office also administers the Florida Greenways and Trails Designation Program which formally defines the statewide system through designation of public and private lands.

PUBLIC INFORMATION
In order to educate and inform Florida residents and visitors about greenways and trails, OGT publishes the quarterly Connections newsletter, offers the online Florida Greenways and Trails Guide, provides an environmental education program called Team Green, sponsors special events, creates promotional materials, and distributes information regarding greenways and trails.

LAND MANAGEMENT
OGT manages several State Trails throughout Florida and the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, a 110 mile long conservation and recreation corridor spanning Putnam, Marion, Citrus and Levy counties in north central Florida.  The Greenway includes a network of hiking, biking, equestrian and paddling trails.
