Event: Florida K-12 Schools Recycling Pledge Card Contest

All Florida Schools are invited to participate in the Florida K-12 Schools Recycling Pledge Card Contest. This contest is designed to reward one class each at the elementary, middle and high school levels for collecting the greatest number of recycling pledge cards. The class with the most number of pledges at their level will receive a gently used desktop computer including monitor, courtesy of Creative Recycling Systems, Inc. The event will begin on October 12, 2008 and will end on November 21, 2007. It is being hosted by Recycle Florida Today and the Department of Environmental Protection.

Event: Tampa, Florida
Date: Present - November 15, 2008

What: "The America Recycles Day Poetry & T-Shirt Design Project"
The project involves students in Hillsborough County schools creating waste reduction/recycling-themed artwork and poetry. The winning poems and artwork are featured on a T-shirt (made from ECOSPUN and recycled cotton) and all participants receive one. The project is open to elementary and middle school students and the deadline is on 11/15 - ARD!

Event: Pinecrest, Florida
Suniland America Recycles Event
Date: Saturday, November 15, 2008
Time: 12:00pm - 3:00pm
Where: Suniland Shopping Center, US1 between SW 112th St. and 117th St.
What: A day of shopping, recycling and fun!

Each tenant will be collecting different goods that can be recycled. There will be gift bags distributed with different coupons and offers and there will be crafts for the kids out of recycled goods.


Event: City of Miami Beach
Date: Saturday, November 15th from 12:00pm to 6:00pm
Location: Lincoln Road at Euclid Circle. Recycling Drop off points at 75th Street & Dickens Avenue and 6th Street between Meridian & Jefferson Avenues.

Event Description: The City of Miami Beach, Waste Management, ECOMB, SIR International, and Surfrider Foundation will have educational tables on Lincoln Road at the Euclid Circle. Residents can drop off electronics and commingled recyclables (office paper, magazines, cardboard, newspaper, plastic, metal, glass) at two drop off points - 75th Street & Dickens Avenue and 6th Street between Meridian & Jefferson Avenues.

Event: Citrus County
Date: Saturday, November 8, 2008 from 10:00am to 3:00pm

        There will be a manned recycling information booth, with displays, literature and giveaways, at the Market Days at Heritage Village on Citrus Avenue in Crystal River, Florida.

Date: Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 10:00am to 3:00pm

        There will be a manned recycling information booth, with displays, literature and giveaways. In addition, end-of-life electronics will be accepted for recycling from County residents at this event, free of charge. The only limitation is two (2) televisions or monitors per household will be accepted. This event will be held at Liberty Park, on N. Apopka Avenue, in Inverness, Florida.


Event: Pensacola, Florida, Suter Elementary School

        The students in Mrs. Pate's and Mrs. Toy's 4th Grade classes have designed placemats which will be distributed to two restaurants near our school on Friday, November 15th. They are also collecting pledge cards at the Fall Festival on November 7th while playing "Energy Jeopardy". The pledge cards will also be distributed with the placemats next Friday, to engage other businesses in the area to participate.


Event: Destin and Fort Walton Beach Florida
Where: Wal-Mart/Destin and Fort Walton Beach City Hall

        Collecting plastic bags, telephone books, magazines, junk mail, newspapers, empty printer cartridges and cell phones. Please see attached flier.


Event: Okaloosa County

        In celebration of America Recycles Day the county will introduce Single Stream Recycling. Waste Management will collect and sort their recycling. Please see attached flier.


Event: Putnam County

Where: Putnam County Sanitation/Recycling Education Department
Date: November 15, 2008
        Tire Amnesty Day: Putnam County citizens will be able to bring in their car and light truck tires at no charge (proof of residency required). Information on recycling will be handed out as well as recycling bins. Hotdogs, chips and a drink will also be served.

School Contest:
        Essay contest for our schools grades 6th - 8th. With 1st, 2nd, 3rd place trophies to be awarded to the winners.
