Reimbursement
Program Description:
The nonmandatory land
reclamation program was designed to provide funding for the reclamation of
eligible phosphate lands mined before July 1975. Landowners submit
reclamation plans to the bureau for approval, proceed with reclamation
construction, and are reimbursed for approved costs. The bureau reviews
the reclamation plans, approves landowners’ contracts to perform
reclamation, inspects the reclamation construction and reviews and
approves reimbursable costs. The bureau also audits the records of
landowners and contractors who perform the reclamation work. The
Nonmandatory Land Reclamation Committee, appointed by the Governor, serves
as an advisory body on matters related to nonmandatory reclamation and
establishes the priority for the annual funding of individual reclamation
programs. Approximately $8-$10 million are appropriated annually for
nonmandatory reclamation.
The section also
administers all surety documents for the rest of the
Mining and Minerals Regulation Program.
